The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has issued a formal response regarding claims circulating on social media posted by Michelle Squier Rave. The online posts allege misconduct by jail personnel, asserting that actions were authorized or covered up by Sheriff Revels. While the Sheriff’s Office typically refrains from commenting on social media commentary, officials decided to address the matter directly after public inquiries surfaced online.

According to official records, Rave was sentenced to probation in June 2023 and subsequently violated her probation terms in April 2024. The Wisconsin Department of Corrections issued a violation warrant in July 2024, leading to her placement in the Monroe County Jail on August 4, 2024. She was later sentenced to 18 months in prison on October 2, 2024, before being transferred to the Taycheedah Correctional Institution on October 10, 2024.

Addressing specific claims regarding her housing, the Sheriff’s Office clarified the application of Wisconsin Statute 302.40. While the statute limits solitary confinement for jail rule violations to 10 days per violation, officials stated that Rave’s specialized housing placement was necessary to prevent harm to herself, other inmates, and staff, rather than functioning as a standard disciplinary measure. Jail records show she was housed in segregation initially, moved to a general POD on August 7, and returned to segregation on August 18 until her prison transfer.

The Sheriff’s Office also refuted accusations regarding a privacy breach in the shower area, stating that records show a male sergeant never entered the area. Instead, two female corrections officers engaged in a conversation with Rave and provided clothing before she exited. Furthermore, officials dismissed allegations of physical abuse and claims involving a witness picking her up upon release, noting that Rave was transferred directly to state prison rather than being released home.

Throughout her two-month stay, corrections staff logged over 300 body-worn camera recordings documenting interactions and multiple rule violations. Sheriff Revels categorically denied all claims of staff misconduct or cover-ups, pointing to Wisconsin Statute 942.01 regarding criminal defamation. The Sheriff’s Office indicated that potential defamation matters will be thoroughly investigated and referred to the District Attorney’s Office for prosecution as appropriate.
