Flags to be flown at half-staff in honor of fallen firefighters

On Saturday, October 10, the flags of the United States and the state of Wisconsin will be flown at half-staff in honor of fallen firefighters.
The flag observances were established by Governor Tony Evers through Executive Order #290, signed in May 2026. The order designated October 10 as Wisconsin Firefighter Memorial Day during Wisconsin Fire Prevention Week, which runs from October 4 through October 10. The order previously lowered flags on May 3, 2026, for the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service.
Although the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend was relocated from October to May starting in 2023, Wisconsin state law continues to designate the week containing October 9 as Fire Prevention Week, ending with Wisconsin Firefighters Memorial Day on Saturday. Executive Order #290 remains in effect from sunrise to sunset to recognize the service and sacrifice of the state's firefighters.
