GREEN BAY, Wis. (WRJN) - Nonprofits in Racine and Kenosha counties are among 402 Wisconsin organizations sharing $1.6 million in grants from the Green Bay Packers Foundation, as the Packers prepare to open their season Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings.
The foundation said the grants support animal welfare, homelessness and human services. It has awarded more than $33 million since 1986.
Kenosha County recipients include Brighter Days 21 Inc., the Kenosha Achievement Center, Kenosha Area Family and Aging Services, the Kenosha YMCA, Open Wings Learning Community, the Shalom Center of the Interfaith Network of Kenosha County and Sharing Center.
Racine County recipients include the BASD Foundation, BeLEAF Survivors, Faith Hope & Love, Fight to End Exploitation, HALO, HOPES Center of Racine, Racine Vocational Ministry, SAFE Haven of Racine, Senior Companion Program, Sleep in Heavenly Peace’s Wisconsin Racine/Kenosha chapters, The Arc of Racine County, Veterans Outreach of Wisconsin, Volunteer Center of Racine County and Women’s Resource Center of Racine.
Most grants range from $3,000 to $8,000. The money is awarded once and must be used for the project described in each organization’s application.
The foundation said $1.43 million is going to 360 groups elsewhere in the state and programs funded will reach all 72 Wisconsin counties.
The Packers play the Vikings at 3:25 p.m Sunday at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. It's the season opener for both teams. Pre-game coverage starts at 1 p.m on WRJN. (1400 AM, 99.9FM-Racine. 98.1FM-Kenosha)
