Local high school football teams play in scrimmages

High School Football faces scrimmages. Rafters end their season after a tough summer. Packers take to the field.

WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (WFHR / WIRI) – High School Football teams from across the state will be seeing its first action on Friday, August 14 as scrimmages will be played.

Nekoosa will host Pittsville at 4:00 p.m., with Port Edwards hosting Oneida Nation at 4:30 p.m.. Assumption will go to Newman Catholic at 3 p.m. and Wisconsin Rapids will be at D.C. Everest at 10:00 a.m.

The first games of the season will be held next week over August 20 and 21.

Rafters reach season’s end

It was a tough summer, but the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters made it to the finish when they played their final game on Saturday, August 8.

Rapids was able to win its final home game of the season in walk-off fashion over Fond du Lac, but came up shy with the Dock Spiders to end the season.

Overall, the Rafters finished with a record of 20-49.

Packers are on the field for the first time, see new alternate jersey

For the first time this season, the Green Bay Packers will take to the field as they will open preseason play on Thursday, August 13 at Pittsburgh at 6:00 p.m.

The Packers are taking on the Steelers for the first time since 2018 in the preseason. They will be up against former long-time Quarterback and Head Coach, Aaron Rodgers and Mike McCarthy.

Green Bay also announced that they will be wearing a new alternate jersey when they play the Chicago Bears.

During the games, both teams will be wearing what the NFL refers to as the rivalry series that pays homage to historic rivalries across the league.

The entire NFC North and AFC South will be participating in the initiative this year.
