U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin is speaking out against federal funding cuts impacting low-income families in rural Wisconsin. The Trump Administration drastically reduced funding under the USDA’s Single Family Housing Direct Home Loans program, leaving Wisconsin with roughly $2 million this year compared to a historical average of $13.1 million.
Despite bipartisan congressional approval providing $1 billion for the program, nearly half of those funds went unallocated nationwide, with over $230 million expiring unused. Senator Baldwin emphasized that high housing costs continue to strain families and noted her ongoing legislative efforts, including the recently passed 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, to lower living costs and expand affordable homeownership across Wisconsin.
