The American Family Field roof.

Get comfortable with the Milwaukee Brewers’ retractable roof being mentioned the next 24 hours.

The Brewers defeated the San Diego Padres, 3-2, in Game 1 of the National League Division Series on Saturday.

But San Diego seemingly did enough to flip the score in the 9th inning, when Padres first baseman Ty France hit a ball so far that it ricocheted off the closed roof of American Family Field and landed in the glove of Brewers outfielder Jackson Chourio.

It appeared the ball hit the roof while in fair territory and therefore the ball is still in play, umpires ruled after the Padres challenged the call.

Major League Baseball decides whether the roof is open or closed during the playoffs. Southeastern Wisconsin taxpayers funded the construction of American Family Field, formerly Miller Park, and the roof in 2001.

Brewers star ace Jacob Misiorowski gave up two runs in the second inning before being pulled ahead of the fifth inning.

Chourio homered in the third to tie the game at 2-2, before catcher William Contreras hit a go-ahead home run in the seventh.

Game 2 is Sunday at 3 p.m.
