Congresswoman Gwen Moore has thrown her support behind Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley in the race for Wisconsin governor.
Crowley’s campaign announced the endorsement on July 31, just 11 days before the Democratic primary election.
“I’ve known David since he was a community organizer and have watched him grow into an effective leader in Milwaukee County and a dedicated husband and father. He is ready to be the next Governor of Wisconsin,” Moore said in a statement. “David has delivered results for Wisconsin time and time again, demonstrating what is possible when we build partnerships, invest in our communities, and deliver results together. I am so proud to endorse David Crowley for Governor of Wisconsin because he is ready to lead on day one, be a leader for all of us, and move our great state forward.”
After dropping out, Crowley reentered the race on July 18 with the endorsement of sitting Gov. Tony Evers.
Crowley has a lot of ground to make up. The latest Marquette University Law School poll has him polling at 7% statewide, with Francesca Hong way out in front at 38%. Moore’s endorsement could certainly help in the Milwaukee area, but Crowley is expected to be strong there anyway.
“Congresswoman Moore has represented my hometown with integrity, passion, and a belief in a stronger, healthier Wisconsin. I’ve had the privilege to work with her to deliver results and investments for Milwaukee County, and I’m honored to earn her endorsement,” Crowley said in a statement. “Congresswoman Moore’s support sends a strong message that we have momentum on our side to win in August and defeat Tom Tiffany in November. I look forward to earning every vote as we reach working families across the state to share our vision for the future of Wisconsin.”
Election Day is Aug. 11 and early voting has begun.
