Francesca Hong running away with the Democratic primary for Wisconsin governor, polling shows

Public polling in recent days shows Francesca Hong has a commanding lead in the Democratic primary for Wisconsin governor with less than two weeks to go until Election Day. 

Marquette University Law School released a poll on July 29 showing 38% of primary voters said they will vote for Hong, followed by 16% for Mandela Barnes, 7% for David Crowley, 2% for Joel Brennan and 2% for Kelda Roys. Another 34% are still undecided. 

The poll was conducted between July 22 and 27 among 407 registered Democratic primary voters. The poll was conducted before the first and only televised debate among the candidates. 

In Marquette’s previous poll released July 22, Hong stood at 27%, Barnes at 18%, Brennan at 5% and Roys at 2%. Crowley was not included. 

Aside from Hong being the clear frontrunner, the polling has to be a disappointment for Crowley, who reentered the race 12 days ago with the endorsement of Gov. Tony Evers. 

A day before Marquette released its poll, State Navigate released a poll, conducted July 23 to 26 among 1,085 likely primary voters, which also showed Hong with a commanding lead. 

The poll showed 44% of primary voters picked Hong, followed by 15% for Crowley, 14% for Barnes, 4% for Roys and 4% for Brennan. 

Election Day is Aug. 11 and early voting has begun.
