On Wednesday, July 22nd, 2026 at 11:17 AM the Sauk County Dispatch Center was notified of a electric bicycle or E-Bike crash that had occurred at an address on Idlewild Road in the township of Merrimac.
It was reported that a 68 year old female from Merrimac had been riding an E-Bike down a hill on Idlewild Road and had lost control and crashed into a shed, suffering severe injuries.
Responding deputies located a witness to the crash who stated the rider was observed riding south on Idlewild Road approaching the intersection with Albrite Drive. The witness stated it appeared that the rider was traveling at a high rate of speed and heard her yell out before the E-Bike left the roadway and struck a shed. The rider was wearing a helmet at the time of crash. Immediate medical aid from witnesses was rendered to the rider who had a significant laceration to her torso and suspected head trauma. Prior to emergency medical service arrival on scene it was reported that the female had lost consciousness. Med-flight was requested to the scene to assist with medical care for the rider and she was flown to a hospital in Madison where she was later pronounced deceased as a result of injuries from the crash.
At this time it is unknown whether rider inexperience or a mechanical malfunction played a role in the crash and the investigation into this incident remains ongoing. The name of the deceased is being withheld at this time.
