Officials from Aspirus Health gathered at the site of their new Chippewa Falls hospital on Thursday to share an update on its progress.

Work on the 35,000-square-foot facility began last year as the healthcare organization sought to fill the gaps in care left behind by the HSHS closures. Jason Troxell, Northwest Wisconsin Division President for Aspirus Health, highlighted three specific healthcare services that were critical to restore as quickly as possible.

“There was really three essential services that the community critically needed,” he said. “One of those was emergency care, another was inpatient care, and the third was primary care. Those three services, emergency care, inpatient care, and primary care, were essential needs for the community.”

Troxell added that because the need for those services was so critical in Chippewa Falls, Aspirus Health made a significant investment in speeding up construction. That investment will pay off in September when the new hospital officially opens.

“So Aspirus invested money in the construction and how we did construction, with modular construction and traditional construction, in order to improve the speed of opening this facility by a number of months so that we could provide that care to the community,” he said. “And we can announce today that we will be opening on September 22nd. It’s a Tuesday in September, less than three months from now, it’s really two months and two weeks, and we will be opening and seeing patients.”

The total cost of the project was $35 million. About 30 percent of the facility was built off-site with modular construction methods. Troxell also noted that there is plenty of space remaining at the 22 acre site off Chippewa Crossing Boulevard for future expansion.

When construction wraps up in September, the facility will feature an emergency department, 10 treatment rooms, 10 inpatient beds, and an on-site clinic with 12 treatment rooms. It will also offer imaging and laboratory services, as well as an on-site pharmacy. Aspirus Health officials will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony and an open house to give Chippewa Falls residents their first look at the new hospital about one week before its official opening date.
