On Thursday, June 11, 2026, at approximately 4:51pm, a 77-year-old Darlington man, Lawrence D. Wedig, died following a single-vehicle rollover crash in the Town of Willow Springs. Wedig was traveling southbound on STH 23 in his 2024 Dodge Ram when the truck left the roadway, entered the west side ditch, and struck an embankment. The vehicle rolled over, ejecting the driver.

Emergency responders from the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office, Lafayette County EMS, and the Darlington Fire Department were dispatched to the 14000 block of STH 23. Wedig was initially transported to Lafayette County Hospital before being transferred by Med Flight to UW Hospital in Madison, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The crash, which remains under investigation, marks the third motor vehicle fatality on Lafayette County roadways in 2026.
