GREEN BAY, WI—(WGBW)— Starting next week, the Fox River Trail from Green Bay through Allouez and De Pere will close in phases to allow for repavement and construction on the trail.
Matt Kriese, the Director of Brown County Parks and Recreation, stated studies and assessments conducted in 2018 and 2025 indicate that the Fox River Trail is well-used but requires maintenance.
“Friends of Fox River Trail has been involved for many years helping to raise money to get this project underway,” Terry Charles, Vice-President of the Friends of Fox River Trail said. “We’re excited that this project is finally getting underway. I’ve been impatient as a frequent user of this trail, so we’re pleased that this is going to happen. We’re certainly going to ask for the patience of all the users over the next few months as this project gets going and is completed.”
Troy Streckenbach, Brown County Executive, stated that people utilize the Fox River Trail to travel from one community to the next via alternative forms of transportation, such as bicycles and e-bikes.
“Clearly we know that this trail is one of the busiest trails in the state of Wisconsin,” said Streckenbach. “And why not. It connects communities. This project, this trail, when completed, will have six municipalities that are connected.”
There are three scheduled closures. The trail will be closed to all traffic. Suggested detours will be placed at all closures.
