Riverkings move into tie for first

Over Friday and Saturday, November 15 and 16, the Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings moved into a tie for first place of the USPHL Premier North Division.

On Friday, the Riverkings and Minnesota Squatch played the full game and overtime where they were knotted at 3-3 before the Squatch got the advantage in the shootout to take a 4-3 victory.

In the series finale, the Riverkings overcame a 4-2 deficit in the final 20 minutes of play with three unanswered goals to notch the 5-4 victory.

Rapids next plays in a USPHL Showcase in the Detroit area over Nov. 23-25 and will take on the Columbus Mavericks, Cincinnati Cyclones, Metro Jets, and Toledo Cherokee.

Wisconsin Rapids, Nekoosa open seasons

The first local winter-season games were played on Tuesday, Nov. 19 when the Wisconsin Rapids and Nekoosa Girls Basketball teams began the regular season.

Rapids hosted Neenah in a rematch of the Regional Semifinal from last season. Neenah repeated the outcome as they won 55-45.

Rapids senior, Kristin Radtke, had a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Raiders’ effort.

Nekoosa opened at Tri-County where they started things off hot with a 46-28 victory.

Wisconsin’s Gun-Deer season begins on Saturday

The traditional state-wide nine-day gun-deer season begins on Saturday, Nov. 23 and runs until Sunday, Dec. 1 and will be followed by a ten-day muzzle-loader season going Dec. 2-11.

All hunters must be wearing- at a minimum- of 50-percent blaze orange or fluorescent pink to be considered legally dressed for hunting activities.

Successful hunters must register their harvests by 5pm the following day and can do so online here or calling 1-844-GAME-REG (1-844-426-3734.)

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources encourages hunters to report hunting violations by calling or texting 1-800-TIP-WDNR (1-800-847-9367.)
