River Valley volleyball is heading to state for the first time in 21 years
For the first time since 2005, a River Valley High School volleyball team will play in the WIAA state tournament. Saturday the Blackhawks won 3 sets to 2 over Cambridge in an instant classic match. The day saw Cambridge win set one, 25-21, and set 4, 25-21. River Valley won set 2, 25-18, and set 3, 25-19. They won the 5th and final set 15-13. It was the second 5 set win for the Hawks in the Sectional after a thrilling win on Thursday night over Viroqua.
Nearly every player contributed to the Blackhawks win, Carlee Burchfield, a junior, and Senior Paige Stafford, and Ella Myers each led the way at the net. Senior Josie Mahoney dished out 53 assists leading the way and libero player Bella Deviney, Kylie Smith and Kenley Straka all led the back row.
With the win, River Valley is now 31-6 on the season while the Blue Jays ended the campaign at 28-5. The Blackhawks will play at 8 am Friday at the Resch Center in Green Bay in the WIAA State Semi-Final. WRCO FM 100.9 and WRCO.com will have live coverage.
