Sheriff Roy Torgerson released the latest summary of law enforcement activities and narrative excerpts for the week ending October 3. Over the past week, local law enforcement officers and deputies responded to a diverse series of incidents across Vernon County, ranging from domestic disputes and trespassing complaints to property damage and financial crimes.

The week began on September 27 with responses to a disorderly conduct incident involving broken dishes and an unauthorized vehicle in Ontario, alongside a trespassing and loose livestock complaint in Readstown. On September 28, deputies made an arrest on North Elk Run Road in the Town of Webster for domestic disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property. Midweek calls included reports of cattle in the roadway in Coon Valley, a false burglar alarm in the Town of Greenwood, a domestic noise investigation in Westby, and ongoing investigations into juvenile trespassing and property vandalism on Asbury Road in Viroqua.

October 1st, deputies and detectives faced several significant reports, including an ongoing online investment fraud investigation involving a loss exceeding $166,000, and a report of juveniles causing damage and tampering with a vehicle in Hillsboro; authorities also responded to wandering livestock on Muncie Road in the Town of Union. A welfare check was conducted for a toddler found alone outdoors in Stoddard; the child was unharmed and reunited with caregivers. The week concluded with an arrest following a fight on West Decker Street in Viroqua on October 2, and a response to an automated crash notification on US Highway 14 on October 3 where emergency responders located a discarded cell phone rather than a vehicle collision.
