Wisconsin’s annual youth deer hunt takes place from Saturday, October 10 through Sunday, October 11, giving young hunters aged 15 and under an early opportunity to build skills before the busier gun season. Open to both residents and nonresidents, the event allows youths to hunt with a mentor under specific guidelines depending on age and certification. Participants must follow TAB-K firearm safety rules and wear at least 50% blaze orange or fluorescent pink above the waist.
The youth hunt is an excellent opportunity to teach and practice safe firearm handling. Firearm safety rests on the TAB-K rules: treating every firearm as if it is loaded, always pointing the muzzle in a safe direction, being certain of your target as well as what lies before and beyond it, and keeping your finger outside the trigger guard until you are ready to shoot.
