A single-vehicle accident on Friday afternoon sent first responders to State Highway 56 after a local driver lost control on the rain-slicked roadway.

According to Vernon County Sheriff Roy Torgerson, the incident occurred at approximately 4:00 PM on August 7, 2026, in the Town of Viroqua.

The operator of the vehicle, identified as 31-year-old Pawanpreet Kaur of Viroqua, was driving a 2022 Land Rover Range Rover SUV eastbound when she encountered a curve near Elm Drive. Due to the wet road conditions at the time, the vehicle left the right side of the pavement before eventually coming to a rest in an upright position.

Although the SUV sustained damage, the safety measures in place played a critical role in preventing serious harm.
