The Bloomer School District has announced plans to propose a capital referendum in the upcoming November election.

The School District of Bloomer Board of Education approved the referendum language at its July 15th meeting. A capital referendum, unlike the operational referendum proposals that have become so common over recent years, is meant to cover a specific investment need rather than simply maintaining currently available services in the district.

If approved by voters in November, it would give the district an additional $77 million in funding for the construction of a new high school building with a community performing arts center. That funding would also go towards infrastructure and safety improvements at Bloomer Middle and Elementary Schools.

According to a press release, Bloomer Board of Education officials say the proposal has been in the works for over two years. They say a facility audit conducted by CESA 10 in August of 2025 identified over $25 million worth of necessary maintenance and facility improvements to undertake over the next decade.

In addition to facility planning, financial analysis, and input from a Community Facility Planning Committee, the district also conducted a community survey nearly two years ago to gauge interest in the project from local residents. Officials say that survey showed the new high school and community performing arts center was a priority for them.

If approved, Bloomer residents would see their yearly property tax payments increase by an estimated $231 per $100,000 worth of property value. More information on the referendum proposal as well as site plans and renderings of the additions are available on the Bloomer School District website.
