Vernon County has officially welcomed Nate Torres as its new Administrative Coordinator. Hired by the Vernon County Board of Supervisors in April, Torres assumed his position June 23. In this capacity, he is responsible for overseeing county administration, providing support to the Board of Supervisors, and facilitating collaboration among departments, elected officials, and the public to ensure effective service delivery.
Torres brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously served as the City Administrator for the City of Viroqua for seven years. During his tenure in Viroqua, he managed significant community projects, including infrastructure renovations and development initiatives. He holds a master’s in public administration from Northern Illinois University and has a background as the School Age Administrator at the La Crosse Area Family YMCA. His professional history is marked by expertise in organizational leadership, strategic planning, and community engagement.
Upon joining the county, Torres spent his initial weeks building relationships with staff and community members to better understand county operations. He expressed enthusiasm for the new role, stating that he looks forward to leading with respect and trust while expanding the county’s positive impact. County Board Chair Lorn Goede noted that the board is eager to work with Torres, citing his valuable local government experience and his quick grasp of the county’s needs. Looking ahead, Torres plans to dedicate his first few months to listening and further learning about county operations before establishing long-term priorities.
