Salmon-A-Rama returns to Racine for 51st year along Lake Michigan
RACINE, Wis. (WRJN) – One of the largest freshwater fishing tournaments in the world returns to Lake Michigan this week as Salmon-A-Rama kicks off its 51st year in Racine.
The 10-day festival, organized by Salmon Unlimited of Wisconsin, Inc., runs Friday, July 10, through Sunday, July 19, at Festival Park on the city’s lakefront. The event combines competitive fishing with family-friendly activities, drawing anglers and visitors from across the Midwest.
The tournament portion, known as “The Big One,” begins at 12:01 a.m. Saturday and concludes at 11 a.m. July 19. Participants compete across multiple divisions, including boat, shore, kayak and youth categories, targeting species such as Chinook, coho and pink salmon, as well as lake trout, brown trout and steelhead.
Weigh-ins are scheduled daily beginning around 10 a.m. at official sites in Racine and other ports in Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan. All fish must be caught within the tournament window and weighed within 24 hours.
The grand prize totals $50,000 in cash and prizes for the largest fish overall, with nearly $200,000 in total payouts expected across hundreds of winners. Additional contests include “Fish of the Day” awards and team-based competitions.

Festival organizers say Salmon-A-Rama will offer a wide range of entertainment throughout its 10-day run, with live music, food vendors and family activities. Daily events include local bands, beer and food tents, children’s games and community events.
Proceeds support Lake Michigan fishery programs. Tickets remain available online and at designated outlets.
