The Richland County Board of Supervisors approved the demolition of selected buildings at the former UW Campus property at last night’s (Tuesday) meeting. The lowest bids were successfully obtained by Robinson Brothers Environmental for the complete removal of the Library, Student, and Science Buildings with a possible inclusion of the Coppertop Building.

Robinson Brother Environmental’s bid of $344,209 was approved to demolish the library, student, and science buildings. If it is later deemed that the Coppertop is to be demolished it will cost an additional $207,641. All work is to be completed by November. The funding for these projects has been made available from Grant funding successfully awarded to Richland County with no match needed.

The board also approved a resolution for the 2027 Capital Improvement Plan. The current practice of short-term borrowing has been utilized to complete various capital improvement projects within the county in previous years. The amount of proposed short-term borrowing for 2027 capital improvement projects is $1.9 million, excluding fees.

The board also approved County Highway Commissioner, Josh Elder, to serve as the backup County Administrator as needed.

In other action last night (Tuesday) the Richland County Board of Supervisors approved:

The merging of the Children’s Community Options Program (CCOP) Advisory Committee with the Comprehensive Community Services (CCS) Coordinating Committee and the New Committee Membership Recommendations.

And repairs to the upper Ash Creek parking lot from the contingency fund in the amount of $3,000.
