Milwaukee radio station 106.5 FM / 860 AM WNOV is entering a new chapter with Dr. Rob “Biko” Baker stepping in as operations manager. It marks a moment rooted as much in remembrance as in reinvention. Baker joins Earl Ingram, host of What’s Going On with Earl Ingram, to discuss how WNOV will continue to honor its past while it also enters a new era.

Their conversation opens by sharing the legacy of Jerrel “Mr. Jones” Jones. He was the longtime owner whose vision sustained WNOV for decades, even against financial odds.

Both men emphasize that the Milwaukee radio station’s future will be built on the solid foundation Jones created. It will remain community-centered, unapologetically Black, and deeply connected to the city’s lived experience.

Baker also outlines a vision that expands WNOV beyond traditional radio. He describes a hub for culture, dialogue, digital storytelling, and opportunity.

“The goal,” Baker tells Ingram, “is not replacement but evolution. A bridging of generations, amplifying overlooked voices, and meeting audiences where they are across platforms.”

Civic Media is a partner and backs WNOV as it aims to blend legacy broadcasting with new media tools. Together – it ensures the stories, wisdom, and creativity of Milwaukee’s Black community continues to resonate locally and nationally.

Baker believes this transition is about the long game, too.

“Honoring the past, investing in the present, and shaping a future where community voices remain at the center,” Baker shares.
