Appleton PD admonishes reckless e-motorcycle riders
APPLETON, WI—(WISS)—After a recent traffic incident, caught on video, in which a group of people on electric motorcycles, or e-motorcycles, drove the wrong way in a roundabout and swerved into oncoming traffic, Appleton Police are fed up. The police department posted the video on its Facebook page with an admonition to e-motorcycle drivers.
“Reckless driving, like swerving into oncoming traffic, isn’t just illegal. It puts lives at risk,” the post said.
Furthermore, police say electric motorcycles are not e-bikes and are not street legal. Electric motorcycles are made for off-road use.
This is not new for Appleton. About two months ago, the police department had another Facebook post detailing what makes an e-bike legal and what makes an e-motorcycle illegal on city streets.
In Appleton, while e-bikes are legal on city streets, e-motorcycles are always illegal for use anywhere in the City of Appleton. They say drivers of e-motorcycles are being cited. And the e-motorcycles will be towed.
