High School sports nearly wrapped up, Rafters continue swinging

High school sports are closing in on the end of their seasons with local teams making Regionals or State. Rafters season well underway!

Assumption Soccer moves on

The Assumption Girls Soccer team continued to move on in its playoff push as it shutout Mauston by a 7-0 score in a WIAA Division 4 Regional Final on Saturday, June 7.

With the win, the Royals will next play Aquinas on Thursday, June 12 at 7:00 p.m. at Washington Field in Wisconsin Rapids in a WIAA Division 4 Sectional Semifinal.

Assumption Track and Field ends season at state

The Assumption Track and Field program capped off an impressive season over Friday and Saturday, June 6 and 7 during the WIAA State Track and Field Championships.

The Royals competed in five events and came away with four medals including two titles as they finished sixth in the Division 3 team standings.

Junior, Bella Thomas continued her reign as the fastest girl in Division 3 as she won the 100m Dash for the third time as well as repeated in the 200m after finishing as runner-up as a freshman.

Lucy Dolan, also a junior, reached the podium twice as she was fourth in the 1600m run and fifth in the 3200m run.

Rafters keep swinging

The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters, continued it’s back-and-forth play over the last week, despite going into the first off-day of the season on a three-game winning streak.

The Rafters were swept by Royal Oak, while splitting with Green Bay and sweeping Lakeshore before the off day on Wednesday, June 11.

For the next week, Rapids will be taking on Wausau, Fond du Lac, Traverse City, and Madison.

Legion Baseball begins

Two of the three American Legion Baseball teams in Wisconsin Rapids began play on Wednesday, June 11.

The 16U Ramblers took down Iola-Scandinavia 13-5, while the 17U Ramblers split a doubleheader with Plover, losing 8-4, but winning 16-5.

The 19U Rangers begin play on Thursday, June 12 with a doubleheader with Medford.
