Proposed cuts to student loans could affect thousands of Wisconsin students
By
MADISON, Wis (CIVIC MEDIA) – Nearly 100,000 Wisconsin students could be affected by a federal proposal to the student loan system.
The proposed legislation would make changes to repayment plans and cut the Pell Grant program – a program that provides financial aid to low-income students. The initiative would also limit graduate student borrowing at $100,000.
Over 95,000 students received Pell Grants in 2024, and half of University of Wisconsin students benefitted from federal aid.
