WAUSAU, Wis. (WXCO) – Freezing rain and ice flip to wet snow, weighing down trees and power lines for many across the state over the weekend.
Power outages across northeast Wisconsin on Sunday caused over 60,000 customers to lose power for nearly 24 hours and still counting for some.
Large tree branches sagged, snapped and fell on to cars, power lines and more causing plenty of problems in areas of the state.
Ice accumulations reached up to a 0.50″ in places like Portage, Shawano, Oconto, Forest and Crawford counties. But the freezing rain and ice stretched far, from Wisconsin Rapids to the U.P. of Michigan. Reports of 0.25″ were seen widespread.
So were the power outages…

Crews say they are working hard to restore service as fast as possible.
Law enforcement report that several trees fell on to roads in Taylor county due to the ice building up on them.
In Bonduel, new batting cages and fences came crashing down from ice.
A power line itself even fell over HWY 64 in Merrill. It closed it down in both directions for about an hour in the afternoon on Sunday.
There was also a crash in Neillsville late afternoon Sunday that shutdown WIS 73.
Heads up, there’s more bad weather with a wintry mix headed our way Wednesday.
Rivers will also continue to rise with possible flooding nearby. Turn around, don’t drown and never go around closed roads or barricades.
