WAUSAU, Wis. (WXCO) – Jacobson punches the Republican ticket in primaries and will face Democrat Switalla in November’s election.

Just before 10 p.m. on Tuesday, with about 77% of the precincts reporting, Jacobson led with 75% of the vote.

Brent Jacobson defeated challenger Cory Sillars, a member of the Wausau School Board since 2022, and a village trustee in Rib Mountain since 2021.

Jacobson is the current mayor of Mosinee, a Marathon County Board Supervisor, and an attorney. He previously ran for Assembly District 86 in 2018, and Senate District 29 in 2022.

He’ll face William Switalla in November. Switalla is running unopposed as a Democrat. He is the current board president of the Village of Wittenberg and represents District 24 on the Shawano County Board. He previously ran for Assembly District 6 in 2016, 2018, and 2022.

The newly drawn version of District 87 covers parts of Marathon, Portage, Waupaca and Shawano counties. Currently represented by retiring Republican James Edming, encompasses a range of metro communities including Schofield, Mosinee, Rib Mountain, Hatley, Kronenwetter and Rothschild. As well as Wittenberg, Birnamwood, Iola, Tigerton and Rosholt.
